James Caan expected to pay in divorce settlement

Most Ohio residents know that marriages among those in the entertainment industry are not known for their longevity. Furthermore, because the paychecks of some of these performers who grace the large and the small screens are substantial, the financial arrangements in their divorce agreements can seem astonishing. The numbers involved in Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s divorce are no exception, and even though the ink is barely dry on this couple’s agreement, they are already back in court.

Heard accuses Depp of failing to meet deadlines put into place in the settlement regarding payments the actor is supposed to make to her. She also accuses Depp of failing to transfer a vehicle into her name and send her personal property located at one of Depp’s homes. Additional allegations in her Request for Order claim that he failed to comply with other property division provisions of their agreement as well.

Depp, on the other hand, claims that Heard is simply attempting to keep herself in the public eye and change their prior deal. He asked the court to require Heard to pay $100,000 toward his attorneys’ fees and as sanctions for alleged violations of the confidentiality provisions contained in the settlement. In lieu of a payment from Heard, Depp requested that he be allowed to deduct that amount from the next payment he makes to her.

Even though the divorce settlements negotiated by most Ohio couples do not involve these types of numbers, many can empathize with Heard and Depp. After hammering out an agreement, some former spouses fail to follow through with what they agreed to do, which makes it necessary for the other spouse to return to court to enforce the settlement. Other individuals seek to modify their agreements because they are still unsatisfied with them. In either case, it would be beneficial to involve an attorney in the process in order to understand the legal options available before attempting to handle the matter alone.
