Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt set to divorce

Movies would often have viewers in Ohio and across the country believe that once a couple falls in love and makes the decision to get married, a lifetime of happiness follows. However, as evidenced by the often well-publicized love lives of many celebrities, marriage is often hard work. Illnesses, children and other major life events can often play a toll on a couple’s relationship. As a result, many couples decide that their best option is to seek a divorce.

Such appears to be the case for famous couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. In papers filed by Jolie with the court, the couple separated in mid-September, approximately two years after they married and over 10 years after their relationship reportedly began. The couple have six children together — three biological and three adopted.

Jolie is requesting sole physical custody of the children with visitation for Pitt. While some speculate there could be a contentious custody battle, sources close to both claim that they are committed to a cordial end to their romantic relationship. In addition to her requests regarding custody, Jolie is also seeking all of her earnings from the date of their separation, personal effects such as jewelry and other assets to be determined as separate.

While the glare of public interest and hectic schedules can create added stress for celebrities, couples in Ohio also experience difficulties. While some will be able to overcome, others will decide that it is in the best interest of all involved to seek a divorce. Once a decision is made, couples must then make difficult decisions regarding the division of assets and child custody. Most people who have been through the process have found that having an attorney with experience with family law on their side helped them ensure they were making decisions that were in their best interest.
