Traditional marriages uncommon today, women asking for divorce

Every single marriage and divorce is completely different from another, even in the same neighborhood, city and state. However, there are some things that seem to be similar when it comes to divorce. While many female residents of Ohio may think that men would be the first to initiate a divorce, the truth of the matter is that it is actually the wife who initiates the dissolution of the marriage.

According to a recent study, researchers gathered information from more than 2,200 heterosexual couples. The participants in this study were all asked a variety of questions regarding the status of their relationship between 2009 and 2015. For non-marital relationships, there was not a particular gender that ended the relationship more frequently. However, when it came to married couples, it was the woman who more often asked for a divorce.

Researchers believe that the primary reason that women are predominantly asking for divorce is because of the way marriages are working in today's modern age. There are allegedly heightened sensitivities in marriages with men feeling as if women should handle childcare and automatically take their names when tying the knot. These are things that are typical in a traditional marriage, but times are changing, which means that spousal roles are changing. After all, there are more working mothers and at-home fathers today than ever before.

Regardless of which gender is asking for a divorce, when moving forward with a divorce without legal counsel, it may be difficult to negotiate with an ex-spouse and get the assets that one is entitled to under the divorce laws outlined within Ohio. Decisions surrounding a divorce are difficult for one to make on his or her own, so having someone by his or her side can help make the process a bit less stressful and traumatic. This can help ensure that one is able to get his or her fair share of assets in the divorce settlement.
